Default Tunning the XR8

I been thinking about what to get to tune the XR8 with and i'm looking for some input on which one would give me a better result in power output. I'm not totally conviced that the Xcal tuner box is the way to go, as we have all seen that BrockyB8 has done an awesome job with his I6 by not using the Xcal.
I do have a good cam for it of hand i can't remember the specs, AFR 165cc heads and match ported the intake to the heads. I am thinking about getting an ICE Ignition set up pending on the cost. The bottom end is pretty much stock with the exception of a main bearing girdle.
So wich one will serve me better?

Cheers Mark

BrockyB8 is running a Wolf V500, big difference between full control aftermarket ECU's and tuned stock ECU's.

The SCT tuning is the easiest option, and cheapest.

AU1XLS runs the Haltech set up. Problem with the Au is you still need the factory ecm to run the smart lock ext, and it get expensive to tune them. stick with the Xcal 3 IMO

"thinking about getting an ICE Ignition set up pending on the cost"

What do ICE do for the AU's synchroniser. Or are you going to go to a dizzy instead with an aftermarket ECU?

Well that could sway me as I don't want to mess the smart lock system up and i don't need a big tunning bill

Why are you not convinced about the Xcal 3?
Have you heard bad things about them?
All Ive heard is praise. They are cheap, easy to use, full of user features (data logging, owner adjustments) and anyone can tune them.

You can not tune with the X3 unless you have the advantage software.
If the supplier allows 'end user adjustments", you can make a few tweaks to an existing tune, but not tune a car from scratch.
The factory ecu will be better than most aftermarket ecus and control of spark through an ecu will always acheive better results than a distributor ever will, even though a distributor may match top end power.

I only have a couple of things unlocked on mine, like timing, and rev limiter, and something else (cant remember) might be fuel?

Another option -Live tune straight into the computer, no flash box or aftermarket chip need.
I've done this with mine, chiptorque on the gold coast did it, I don't know of anyone else down your way though.
