Default Electrical issues

The other day my battery died, went out bought a brand new one hooked it up and it started but the battery light kept flashing on and off and the battery lost charge very quickly, alternator was stuffed had it bench tested to make sure. Went to a wrecker and sourced a working motorcraft (3pin) with 3 months warranty, chucked it in but the battery light still remains on, but instead of it flashing on and off quickly it stays on for a period of time then goes off then comes back on, voltage stays at around 14 (confirmed with diagnostic) although i went for a drive and it seemed to go higher? closer to 16 on the gauge.

Any ideas?

Seems to have settled down a little bit, took the chance to fit a new water pump and while flushing the old coolant the volts stayed between 13.7 and 14.3 no battery light.
