Default Real deal or dealer dribble

Ive put a deposit down on a 2002 au xr8 ute
Now ive only spoken to the dealer and not seen it the ute yet .
But the dealer told me it a special edition with a tickford 200kw motor leather interior blah blah blah the question is there such a special edition model .
Its listed as a 4.9lt which i assume is a typo or ignorance .

So let me know is it dealer dribble or is he ligit .

All series II & III XR8 got the 200kw motor with the leather being an option.
4.9 or 5.0, glass half empty or half full. same diff.
The only specials were the Pursuit 200kw series II & Pursuit 250-5.6l series III.

From the sticky at the top of this sub-forum:

Quote:
Power Outputs for the entire AU XR range were as follows: (from factory)

AU Series I, Sedan and Ute: 185kw
AU Series I, NON XR Sedan and Ute: 175kW

AU Series II, Sedan: 200kw (late April onwards 220kw)
AU Series II, Ute: 185kw (after introduction of Pursuit model, 200kw)
AU Series II, NON XR Sedan and Ute: 175kW

AU Series III, Sedan: 220kw
AU Series III, Ute: 200kw
AU Series III, NON XR Sedan and Ute: 175kW
Don't know about a special edition but one would have been able to tick the option boxes for leather, etc. All 200kW motors were built by Tickford. All 302 motors were referred to as 4.9L up until the AU series (I think).

so you haven't seen it yet..?
hope for your sake that the "special" model turns out to be a P250!
and the dealer doesn't know about it!!

Being a 2002 model, it will be a 200kw, unless its a Pursuit 250, in which case it will be a 5.6lt (342ci) 250kw motor, the same as fitted to the T3 series.

I had an AUII Pursuit with the 200kw and I loved it. It is completely out gunned by by P250 and BA XR8s but for what it was, it was a great car that was the most driveable thing I have ever owned.

There is no trouble you can't get yourself into, or out of in an AUII/III XR8 - down on grunt, but make very good use of the grunt they have. Dramatically better to drive than a B Series XR8 when you push them into the twisties.

I think the dealer is referring to the EL GT motor, most people get them confussed or use this as a selling point, just because they are both tagged as 200kw.
But be a little weary about this dealer if they are saying thing's like that and also if it is a pursuit (ie 200kw) it should have the Tickford XR8 body kit,
Sound's like a standard AU XR8 though.....

Yeah maybe your right .
Im a little weary of all dealer's though he did seem like a nice bloke. Its not unusual for them to try and find a stronger selling point as long as there not trying to drive the price up .
It does have the tickford xr8 badge and bodykit on it .

They have a power band if you will between about 1200rpm and 5000rpm where the Boss is like an I 6 till 3500 and tops out at 6k. The power off the mark will leave a boss behind the boss will have it over the windsor up top.
I have one of each and the AU is the better car to drive the Boss is faster but thats where it ends the AU out handles and is lighter to steer than the top/nose heavy Boss. The AU does not have the push or understeer in corners that the Boss displays.
If I had to choose 1 car to keep the BA would be gone.

Hmm, it should have the pursuit badge there but that doesn't mean it's still not a pursuit if it doesn't have it, someone could have just replaced it with an XR badge, espcially if they have repaired the rear, your best bet would be to get the vin number's and contact Ford and find out what it is exactly before you hand over any cash.

It feels more linear than a BA and as a result there is nowhere in the rev-range that the 200kw really shines - it's just a pretty solid thing right through. It's probably this that makes the AUII/III Utes so easy to drive sideways on not much more than throttle control.

There is simply no comparison between the two once the BOSS starts the leg stretching at ~3000rpm.... it is, at that point, staggering how much grunt the BOSS motors have in their sweetspot compared to the Windsor.

In a straight line, stock for stock, the BOSS will murder the Windsor. Race them down Macquarie Pass and the BA will beat the AU to the bottom by a mile - except the AU would have used the road to get there whilst the BA had left the tarmac at the first hairpin and flew all the way to your fun but fiery demise.

The perfect balance between an AUII/200kw and a BA/BOSS is the Pursuit 250 - which does everything they both do very bloody well.
