Default Closing of threads

Just wondering why this thread was closed? Seemed pretty tame in the thread it self, and the picture I thought was quite hilarious. Did someone get offended by the name of the thread?

Not being smart but I just want to know so I don't do something similar.

Cheers

Yeah I read that before I posted this but it didn't really answer my question. My basic understanding of it was that the reason why threads get closed down is because a) poster does not contribute to other parts of the forum, and b) low quality post.

Now cams290 is a respected member of these forums and further more he donates (I assume anyway as he has gold member status.) He also participates over the whole board, rather than posting "low quality" stuff in the bar. So this elminates the first point.

Secondly I found the post quite amusing, as did everyone else who commented in the thread. So based on this, I would not class it as a low quality thread.

If there was an explanation then that's fair enough. But it was just closed without any notification as to why.

The Bar needs only one pointless thread to live and the flood gates open.
All of the "but his crappy thread wasn't closed but mine was" pm's get very tiresome.

I guess its hard to judge low quality posts because everyone has a differing opinion. Fair enough though...

Thanks for clarifying it for me

As advised in my email to you it has been moved into an area for deleted threads that is not visible.

In the view of the moderator concerned (a view I concur with) the thread was not appropriate for discussion on this forum.

Correct. To an area that can't be accessed. By moving threads to this area it lets the administrators monitor what moderators are deleting.

So by moving a thread to an area that can't be accessed by general forum users, is it not the same as deleting that thread?

It's just one step away...how it usually works is it's an area for admin to see what the moderators have picked up on and if admin agree with the moderators the thread is permanently deleted by them. Some options are configurable as to who can do what, where and when.

Yep ... both Meg and DJM are correct. Goes to to a spot where all mods and admin can view it and if the move was deemed inappropriate it would go back to the general area

There are some topics of discussion that will be deleted as they are deemed inappropriate for a Car site. Ford Forums is first and foremost a "Car enthusiast" site. Its really as straight forward as that.

Its a fine line between many that stay and some that go. To come on a site and be subjected to some of the topics just isn't needed. There are many other sites to deal with these matters and have people who have more knowledge on the matter than here on car site ..... even though there are some here that have the knowledge as we are all a mixed bunch ...... but in general its always the same responses.
