Default engine whine noise lr zetec

iv got a whining noise, sounding identical to a supercharger coming from my motor...

its hard to tell where the noise is coming from but im assuming its something driven by the drive belt..

now i thought it was the power steering pump, checked the oil. its pretty dirty, but took the belt off and the pully spins pretty good,
any ideas..

its a 04 zetec

Pully is always going round though, mag lock engages it with condensor.

Are your belts newish? Might actually be a worn belt.

this is a guess but your alternator bearings could be the source of the noise if you are certain its not aircon I would look at alternator - they can still charge but have blown bearings (overtightening the belt can ruin the bearings) I have checked one in the past by idling car and blasting the front the alternator with wd40 avoid getting it on the belt as best you can the little tube helps heaps for this if the noise changes or goes away then the alternator is source - something for you to check I have not done this on a focus but have had this problem on other vehicles, hope that helps you

OR you could check for idler type pulleys on the belt (serpentine) sometimes they are prone to make noise - havn't had my focus long so don't know if it has idle pulleys or a tensioner (also can get noisy) those might be worth investigating also
