Default Rotors and Pads

There's an online store on eBay selling AU2 & 3 front rotor and pad packages for $120; Protex rotors and Maxistop pads. Are these okay for normal, everyday use?

Unkown. For that price, why not give them a try and let us all know. Based solely on price, I would say they will be no better than standard (which is OK anyway), but the surface of them looks a bit suss to me. Not as smooth looking as other brands.

There's another mob selling RDA500 slotteds (for AU1 - I'd say they do them for AU2 as well) for around $160 a pair plus postage - a much better proposition if you ask me (DBAs are around $130 EACH).

Just found another lot selling RDA500 standard, with free RDA pads for $105 plus 22 postage. Do a search using RDA500 - in the ad, it says they do other makes and models as well.

I personally would give them a miss, I like knowing that my car will stop lol
no doubt they will work, hell they might even work reasonably well, but for piece of mind id rather have good rotors and pads like what JC explained..

(lol off topic, JC bored at home too mate? we gonna be following eachother around these forums? haha)

I was just thinking the same thing. Not bored - this is MY time. Kids and missus in bed, so I'm either on here, or in the garage working on the car. The work I need to do now requires power tools, which makes the neighbours cranky, so here (and ebay) is all I got! Sad, isn't it.

Back on topic - brakes are the only things stopping you from hitting things (talk about stating the bleeding obvious!!), so trying a cheap set (Proteks) would be OK if they work. But if they don't work, just chalk that up to experience, don't worry about the $120, and go back to stock rotors, or get the RDAs - proven brand, not quie as good as DBA, but probably better bang for your buck.

If the new brakes perform less than the old, then it is a much cheaper lesson to ditch the new brakes and reinstall the old, than it is to have the new ones fail at a critical moment.

I picked up my dba slotted for $85 each then $110 on top for the EBC black stuff pads. But as for Rda they are crap as ive had them on the rear and the compound isnt as strong as the DBA's.

krusty hit the nail on the head, you mightn't notice any difference in the braking characteristics but where the good and bad rotors show is how long they last. DBA for me all day, the most durable rotor on the market imho.

Personally, I've had both DBA and RDA rotors, and both seem about the same to me.
The guys I get my race car's brake stuff off (a well known race brake and clutch specialist in Melb.) use RDA's, coz they have had probs. with DBA's.
Personal choice I suppose.

Maxistop pads are OK-ish. Just don't get them hot in the first 500km or so. Otherwise, the 'glue' type material in the pad (I think it's the compound used to bind the pad material together) comes to the surface, glazes up the pad surface, and then they squeel there heads off. They then do this for life.
This happened in Nikk's XR8. Every 1500kms or so, I'd have to pull them out and scuff them up to get rid of the glazing. Got the ИИИИs with it in the end, and went to Ferodo pads.
Prob. solved.

Very true what you say about RDA. The metallic compound of the RDA rotors is crap. I must admit, I have not used them myself, but my information comes from improved production class drivers and other hipo mechanics. Hence why I have steered clear of the RDA's on my car........

My current brake set up is. DBA Slotted rotors with QFM, A1m pads. As far as it go's for up grading standard size rotors and Pads, you won't get a better combo then what I am running for the streat and some track work.... On say that when I do go to the track will swap pad toa QFM A1RM compound, This pad never fads, and has more bit the a ИИИИed off pit bull .... I swear my life on it....

i have protex rotors and they were fine and at $35 each i was happy
as far as pads go i would buy brand name pads but maybe not bendix unless you want to wash your wheels every week. even the general ct's create tons of dust
QFM make some decent pads and are aussie

I've got rda slotteds front and rear on both my AUs, coupled with QFM pads and they work great.

My mate put rda slotted and cross-drilled rotors with QFM pads on the front of his BA and he's absoluted wrapped with the results.

For the record, I've had dba with bendix pads and they were a lousy combo, the discs warped often.

Since having rda and QFM gear, I've not touched the brakes on either AU for years. Having said this though, I'll be checking them in the next few weeks, maybe getting them skimmed and another new set of QFM pads.

I've dealt with these guys also. Very helpful and speedy delivery. JC put me onto them a few years back.

Currently running RDA slotted rotors and QFM pads (front wheels) in my BFII. Pulls up really well, especially when you put a bit of heat into the pads!!
