getting off ford viynals (stickers)

neways sorry about the spelling but in a rush

i bought a heat gun today to take off the orange strip on my car (very 80's and just needs to be taken off), its getting sprayed in a week or so but i want to take umm off before that, can somebody sugest the tempurture to set the heat gun at ( dont gess) mine goes up to 650 my dad recon only 100 should be used but when i used 100 or even 200 i couldnt get the dam things off. is there a step i am missing please tell

I assume you mean the pinstripes down the side?

I left my car in the sun for awhile and used a razorblade. Apart from jamming it in my knee when I got dive bombed by a bee, it all came off fine, and I didn't even mark the paint. If you're getting it resprayed soon anyway it probably wouldn't matter too much anyway.

yep i thought there might be some method to the madness. so GRNKPR your can keep addin the heat and it wont hurt the paint or melt the sticker to the paint???

Overheat it and you will burn the paint, or worse, warp the panel. Get it hot enough that sticker becomes soft enough to dig your finger nails under and start peeling. You might find it will only come off in tiny sections, so be paitent. Dont use a blade unless your respraying, and even then take your time and be careful. Glue comes off with prepsol. You'll also find that you'll have a new shiny paint coloured strip underneath that will require buffing if it's too obvious. But since your painting it, it shouldn't be a problem.

Dousing the sticker in Petrol and winding the heat gun up to full will get it off in no time

If they're the orange XD Spack stripes, and you get them off in one piece with the glue intact & they're not stretched, I'll buy them off you...... :p
