Default Glossy Tailight tinting

OK now i know a few of you guys will probably have a go for this being "Illegal", but i have seen around and want to know how to get the tailights tinted glossy.
I have used the "nightshades" tint spray but comes out grainy and terrible. What any other way of doing it? Window tint film? Ive seen it and look good IMO.
All HELP appreciated

Cheers Frank

Ok aside from the legalities etc, I have heard of it being done by mixing nightshades with a bit of clearcoat and getting a panelbeater to spray the lights. I too had the nightshades on my old set of lights (taken them out now) and you're right, it does come out grainy and ordinary. I gave them about 5 coats of clear over the top and it fixed them up a bit but you can still see the rough finish.

Is the tint completely illegal or is it like window tint, below a certain % illegal?

My G/F tinted the garnish on the back of her VT with that niteshade stuff, the trick is to cake on a clear topcoat as thick as possible without getting any runs... turned out alright ay!

The best way I have seen it done is to add a little bit of black tinter to some 2 pack clear and spray the lights. Start with 2 coats, the more coats the darker it gets.Very nice result.

I had mine done at a paint shop.

They mix black tinter with clear and then spray the lights. As FTE72 mentioned. I didn't go too dark so not to make them too conspicuous.

I notice that MR XR6T is in Sydney, let me know if you want to get it done and I will give you the info for where I got mine done.

Here's how they look

Agreed there. That's the way i did my BF lights. Only problem was with 2 lightish coats, they came out darker than i wanted.

I was aiming for a result like rapid xr8

Cheers
