Default I love cars....

I've just forked out $170 for a new tyre as last nite i had a bolt go thru mine, it was run flat long enough to f-u-c-k the sidewall completely (from what i can tell, the handling off the car was noticably different at speeds only just over 100, in a 100 zone) got into an 80 zone after this, took off from a set of lights, bump bump bump bump... ah yeah could be the road, then i turn the music right down.. and hear that sound of a rim running on a tyre (work in a servo, hear it often) pull over and have a look, right rear is flat, smells like i've just pulled a huge burnout and the tyre is damn hot, so i'm sitting there at 630pm down a sidestreet in christies beach changing my tyre. (adelaide guys think elizabeth of the south, vic guys think frankston...)

I Also got my wheel alignment fixed which had caused my front right to wear unevenly on the inside (toe out), this was fixed and the car steers straight perfectly, aswell as having the weheels rotated.
Then i decide to go down to where my cousin got the car serviced before he sold it to me and ask for a copy of what was done (holy $255 a side for rear window regulators) a bunch of minor faults i picked up and the the ones that will need attention sometime soon: idler pulleys worn, engine mounts split, trans mount sagged, upper trailing arm bushes worn... the rear shocks and brake fluid were also noted, i have had them done since i've had the car.

So after today, and reading Ghia5l's post about his diff issues i've decided that for now i'm just going to keep the car running well and get it how i want it (hence why I alos got some diff oil to replace the old stuff with, oil and oil filter, and some more kitten interior cleaner, this stuff works miracles) So to keep myself happy i went and got a tickford snorkel so i can atleast do some sort of 'mod' to the car :P
Thanks for your time

-Jimmy

J4M35Y! No wonder you were cranky on MSN :P (j/k)

It's all good mate, I popped a tyre in dad's commodore outside a strip joint of all places :

So did you feel a real jump in the ***-o-meter when the Tickford snorkle was put in? It does feel good having something new in the engine bay though

niko: I thought you were talking about women until I read "cars" :P

$170 for a 235/45/17 aint to bad, the thing that ****es me off is that the tyre is(was) in perfect condition, ie.. like 2k old.I'm just happy i picked up the front one wearing unevenely and have had that problem rectified also before it got anyworse.

Yep, gotta love cars, the money sucking critters they are. That's part of the reason I decided to rename my car the Goblin.

I've decided no more mods for a while, I'll pay the rent and buy food for a while instead. :

Yep cars are fun, I need a few little parts for the Laser and hey presto, $400 for a seatbelt, $300+ for engine mounts, $400 for driveshafts, $400 for tyres... most of it won't end up happening but Ford Spare Parts have basically made the car an economic write-off even though there's nothing significant wrong with it. And I can't do a damn thing to get the EA on the road to save the day, so to summarise: cars are fun.

Jack, ever heard of aftermarket parts? Seriously, Ford Spares must love you. I bet they mark the price up whenever you walk in the door.

There isn't much choice in this case but to use aftermarket, except in some cases the aftermarket has nothing to offer.

I hear you Jack, to get the EA all done for rego (and while we were at it, found other stuff and got it all fixed too)...

Let's see, I think the total bill was just over $2K, plus rego/greenslip/TPP insurance of $750... Can anyone spell L-E-M-O-N

I love/need the car/s, so we just have to fork out. No time to do it all myself, and even if I had the time, some of these things are way beyond my capabilities of basic mechanics and occasional stereo/amp stuff. :

I got a puncture in the sidewall of my $245 (235/45/17) tyre just 2 weeks after i got it!

I would of at least liked to have killed it in a more fun way if i was going to waste $245 :eclipsee_
