Default Mk1 escort square headlights?

My brother has just bought a mk1 escort coupe, it was a decesed estate and is in top condition with 50000 orignal miles on the clock. The question i have is this car has the square headlights as oposed to most I see have round headlights, what does this mean, was it an option.

Sorry to correct you Kermit but, all Australian spec Mk 1 Escorts had square headlights.....Including Twin Cams. Sorry, it really annoys me every time someone says round headlight/twin cam grille, because there's no such thing. Most UK mk 1 Escorts had round headlights except the TCs and 1300Es

I have a car in the same configuration except manual gearbox & I would prefer if it had round headlights too!

Dont foget that 25 rs2000 mk1 were imported here these having the round headlights.
I actually prefer the square lights it matches the grille. The round lights are like a round peg in square hole.

Yes, Ron. But they weren't Aust. spec. They were built at AVO. :
Round headlights are a tradition with all the Ford RS cars (upto the Sierra Cosworth) except one....The Twin Cam Escort. Best looking Escort would have to be the red & gold Alan Mann TCs with fat arches and square headlights. When I started doing Classic Ford Artwork, this was the first one I did, and some old Escort stalwart picked my up on the headlight issue, back then, so I'm always quick to reitterate it.
