Default Dodgy AU VCT oil pressure

I have just bought an AU1 Fairmont Ghia VCT. The oil pressure normally sits just above half but every now and then it goes full scale for a couple of minutes and then back to normal. I notic in the service history it had a new sender about 2 years ago.. is this a common problem?? or could the oil pressure actually be going that high??

Its an earthing problem. Its very common on the AU's. Just clean in the connection points on the oil pressure sender and it should be ok. If it isnt run another earthing point from the battery and see if that sorts it out.

Where is the oil pressure sender? Mine gauge usually sits on red then comes back to normal for about five seconds then goes back to red. Drives me nuts.

Im pretty sure the guage is a dummy one anyway. The needle sits at the same place all the time (as long as there is oil pressure) If there is none it drops. I know this is the way with Tickford cars and im sure would be the same with your car. Correct me if im wrong.

AU1's got real oil pressure gauge's that actually work. AU2/3 got the pretend ones as a cost cutting issue.

that is with S2/3 cars on the S1 the gague is real. if it turns out it is the sender I have one that is only a couple of months old you can have for $30 instead of the $75 ford will charge you
