Default EGR tube on LR Focus

Question for the more technical.

Does the Australian delivered LR Focus Zetec have a EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) tube?

Yes it does.

"Zetec drops the variable valve timing that has been used on the Contour for internal EGR, in favor of a less expensive conventional EGR valve that's adequate for Low-Emissions Vehicle (LEV) standards."

Thanks Piotr. Where is that quote from?. The reason I ask is I have a Ford Racing long tube header coming from the states (eventually!) and it has a modified EGR tube to suit the zetec engine. But that of course is the Zetec engine in the U.S., thus my question about Australian delivery

I have just bought a focussport race header with flex pipe and it had 3 holes in it.
2 at the top and 1 down where the 4 tubes join into 1.
If your racing the car you don't need the cat.

If your not, the best thing to do is put a hiflow cat straight after the flex pipe (I got the metal cat).
What thay did to my car was just relocat the oxygen sensor from the old header further down where the tubes go from 4 into 1.

There were no other sensors on the std header.
The other 2 holes where closed of with proper size nuts with copper washers.

The car runs fine, just make sure when the new header is on there is at least 5-15mm gap between you header and the bottom of your sump. you don't want heat near you engine oil.

My header is ceramic coated so it doesn't heat up as much.

Nick.

No Simon, will be installing a new cat. This is a new long tube header for the Zetec that has only been available over the last 6 or so months that is designed to bolt onto a cat.

The system is a 4-2-1 header originally from the Focus SVT (ST170), modified by Ford Racing Parts to bolt onto the Zetec engine. It is stainless steel and will be ceramic coated. (Which is part of the reason for the delay) A picture of the uncoated header is currently in my avatar. Then a Random Technology hi flow sports cat is connected that fits under the engine rather than in front (The OEM SVT cat sits underneath). This will then be bolted to a 2.25" stainless flexpipe, which will then bolt to my existing 2.25" Herrod stainless catback. An O2 harness allows the O2 sensors to be extended to match up with the new sensor positions

In the states, this is currently regarded as THE header upgrade, giving measurable increases in both power and torque.

My plan is to dyno the car after installation and compare to most recent dyno chart, so I will be able to share the figures.

Once completed, my system will be modified from air inlet to tailpipe, only retaining original throttle body and intake manifold, and MAF sensor.

Rough cost around $1500 including header, cat, and flexpipe and freight.

My current cat is cactus, and Ford wanted $1300 for just the part. So it made sense to bite the bullet

You are a very cheeky puppy Mr Matt. I think I will adopt the "walk quietly and carry a big stick" approach.

Boys and girls, next years Small Ford Sunday will be worth buying tickets for. There will be white hot competition between Matt and I, as we polish our cars virtually back to bare metal................and then "Best Focus" will be taken out by someone else!!!!!
