Buy a dash mount vacuum gauge and keep that sucker (no pun intended) as high as you can while maintaining a reasonable speed. Low vacuum = more fuel.
As others have said, make sure your tyre pressures are good (34 to 36 should be plenty) and also make sure the tune is good (plugs, points, timing and air filter).
