Default TE50/XR8 Exhaust options

Ok guys i had a quick search but couldnt find much. Ive booked my TE in for an exhaust on Monday.
Guy at the exhaust shop suggested a 2.25" twin system. He said that a 2.5" would be too big on a standard 5L and should only be used if there is engine works in the pipeline.
Now my TE already has a 2.25" from factory. So apart from replacing the mufflers and a more free flowing system i fail to see that the 2.25" system will net me any gains note wise. Im not after any real performance gains as such, i just want my V8 to sound just that, like a V8. Ive noticed that alot of V8 guys have twin 2.5" twins and it seems to be the way to go. A single system is out as ive heard afew and they dont do anything for me and i think V8's should have a twin system.
Any ideas welcome.
