Default Couple of questions re: a couple of AU issues

Sorry if this has been posted before, i searched, but couldn't find anything...

I own a V8 AU Fairmont with about 167000 km's, and is generally in good nic. But, recently, 2 issues have surfaced...

The first issue is the auto transmission. Only when the car is cold (i.e. first thing in the morning) the transmission plays up something terrible. I take off in 1st gear and it revs as normal and as it tries to go into 2nd it gets stuck in neutral (i think) and won't go into gear. Sucks plenty on a main road with the morning peak hour behind me. Anyhow. The owners manual suggest not to touch the transmission, it should only be done by a licensed mechanic...which is probably a safe option given i wouldn't know where to start. Before i fork out the hard earned on a mechanic, i was thinking someone here could give me a few tips on where and what to look for to see if it could be something simple...oil seal or somethin'.

The 2nd issue is the drivers seat (electronic). Seems one side of it is stuck and the other works, so when i try to adjust it, the seat twists to the right which is the side that is stuck. Pretty uncomfortable really. Should i just buy a new seat or is there something i could do to fix.

thanks heaps.

Mitch.
