Default AU2 VCT Cam

Well guys and gals, the AU is booked in for this Monday at KPM Motorsport for a bit of performance enhancing surgery. Work being done is a camshaft grind (custom), a new dyno tune (already have the CAPA Edit) and a few other things, eg fix noisy lifters, lash adjusters etc. As it is the VCT, has anyone performed this excercise and what was the end result? According to one customer, who had only basic mods to his ride, said it made his I6 pull like a V8, and this mod did change his mind about upgrading to a V8. Im looking for low 14's, and that seems on the cards from the boys at KPM. I will post the findings in my opinion when the car comes home, can't wait!

Motivation isn't the problem... funds are. These toys are not cheap. I already have the specs for the custom grind in mine.. I just haven't got the funds to go ahead with it yet.

Will be good to see the results.
We need:

Before: dyno run and 1/4 mile run
After: dyno run and 1/4 mile run

Just to get some decent comparisons

I know what it is like regarding funds ... I got a service adn rego due on the territory ... and mortgage payment due this coming week ... there goes about $2400

Will be interesting to see. I'm starting to investigate the option of putting a Crow 225950 custom ground cam (which is supposed to be similar to the 2232546 cam) in my VCT so it will be good to see if you get real improvements. All the best mate.

Yep sure will. i'm hoping these guys will be Melbourne's version of G&D Performance but based in Adelaide as we don't have huge amounts of mechanical talent here, and yes, it will not be cheap! Only a few days to go now!

Hey Darby,

Good luck with it. If you could please take note of your before and after fuel consumption and revs at different speeds, that would be cool as well. Would just like to know lots of other little things it does to your car as well.

Regards,

Andrew.

LOL, guys, call me Duane. Well the result is in, the conclusion is final.... it HAS made an improvement! According to the before and after dyno result (i don't have a scanner, I will take a photo shortly) there has been a gain of 9kw over the standard cam, but the torque has improved dramatically from about 3200RPM onwards, more particulary between 3860 - 5100RPM which ties in well the the 3000RPM JMM stall converter. Idle is the same as before, but you can hear a small amount of cam noise from the engine, which I have been told this is normal? 2000rpm onwards. Peak power came in at 132.8kW at 5000RPM with 103Rwkw available from 3600RPM. Concerned about the max. of 132RWKW, expecting higher, a vehicle I saw at another AU in a leading shop in adelaide was on the dyno and pulled 111.2 RWKW with some mods, 4 days earlier pulled 124.2RWKW on a popular sponsor's dyno in Melbourne tells me that perhaps each state has different dyno calibrators, but the comparison was all I was after. Bum-o meter tells me the car is stronger, especially climping up the hill on the way home and under the right foot. Fantastic! Now have three tunes, 1/ valet tune 2/ 95 RON Tune 3/ 98 Ron tune which I am using. But I still have 1 small problem perhaps someone has the same or can help.(should be in a new thread I know!) After fitting the second gen. PH4480 headers and high flow cat 3 months ago, I can hear the exhaust ( sounds like engine noise entering the cabin through a missing firewall grommet) on the driver's side footwell. There are no holes in the firewall, and 2 people have acertained there are no exhaust leaks. It didn't do this with the old PH4480's and standard ford cat. convertor. It's ****ing me off! Any ideas? Sorry for the long post. Thanks, Duane.

mate ,i'd have a guess and say it maybe pinging .if sounds like a rattly ticking sound .i'd try loading your tune fo the 95ron fuel and see if the problem goes away .you might have just got a bad batch of fuel.

good result on the cam by the way.will be good to see the dyno printout.

NO, I am familiar to what pinging sounds like, and plus, this noise took place after the exhaust upgrade. Next step to solve this small issue is to reverse cat convertor ( that's if it's on backwards!)

As for pricing, rather than post this to the public, I am happy to P.M. to any forum members. As for Bang for Buck, I would say most likely, NO. To re-do the flash tune ( I already had the flasher) was very expensive contribution to the overall price at KPM. But this had to be done to tune to the cam.

so overall it didn't provide the expected boost you hoped for given the price?

Correct, but I know to get big kilowatts = big bucks! But overall I am happy with the end result.
