Default Mad Max 4!!!

Went to the pub last night and got into a conversation with a bloke who said he was working on Mad Max 4. I thought he was full of it until he showed me some footage from his iphone that showed a metal finished xb coupe with a massive blower and jacked up rear end driving around what looked to be a parking lot.

A quizzed him a bit further as he was well under the weather. He told me the following:

The movie is being shot out at Broken Hill and an English actor whose last name is Harley I think is playing Max. They have 6 Coupe's 4 of which will be finished in metal as the story in the movie goes there is no more paint left in the world and as there is no water, so metal doesn't rust. (Thats what he told me). The story will start out with a coupe done up like the original. Mel Gibson will not be making a cameo.

I said to the bloke these Coupes were rare it would be a shame to trash them and they must have been expensive to buy 6. He said they have $250 million to spend and that wasn't a problem. $250 million will go a long way in Broken Hill I would think.

He showed me a couple of other pictures of vehicles to be used in film one was a 30's Ford style hot rod with twin blowers on it (his words) and two stripped down trucks that looked like tripped down airport trucks.

Mad Max is one of my favourite films I hope they don't screw 4 up and I hope they treat the Coupes with some love.

Clinton

If you watched Mad Max 3 - Beyond Thuderdome, like I have numerous times you would have seen at the end of the movie when they escape in the plane they do fly over Sydney and there is absolutely no water in Sydney at all.

Filming is set to start next month and yes it is around Broken Hill.

An unfinished coupe in the same style as the one from MM2 and a rat rod with a massive blower set up were shown last year with George Miller during an interview which was aired on all the major TV stations as well as some pay TV stations.

regardless of the budget, doubt they would trash original coupes. more likely they'd build they own look-a-likes to thrash.

Link didn't work Jim.

IMDB has this to say about Mad Max 4:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1392190/

Only 4 actors listed as yet, however one has a last name of "Hardy"

So there you go ;)

Its an old link, sorry didnt check to see if it worked.

Yes Tom Hardy appears to me "Max".

Mel Gibson is 58/59 yrs of age now.
Orginally MM4 was scheduled to start about 6 yrs ago in some African country! Nambia or Nanbibia? (Pretty sad considering its uniquely Australian series) Gibson had apparently said yes to play "Max" back then.
The film fell through due to civil war and the crash of the US dollar I think.

Im guessing the return of the Interceptor may just be for "flashbacks" with the new "Max" so it maintains the storyline.

George Miller said that it would take about 2 years to make. Time to build all the vehicles plus he is going to be doing stuff that has not been done before, his words. This will take time, plus he wants as much real stuff, and less CGI, as is possible since it is a car movie.

It looks like a lot of work is going into building the cars for it - most seem to be bitsa's - pieced together from different cars. If the emphasis of the movie is on the cars - with a working title Fury Road you'd hope so - it should be pretty interesting.

Family friend of ours Russell Allan (main stunt driver), told us about the new movie about 2 years ago.
Around 6 months ago it got the go ahead, there was talk about more trucks at that stage and hopefully the speed bumps will flatten out and should be a very interesting mechanical intercourse movie!

I'm pretty sceptical about stuff like this. The guy wasn't the type that was into cars and was an "arty" type so for him to have video of an xb coupe on his phone was unusual. I hope they do the films justice but I really hope they didn't junk any genuine xb coupes. I got the impression a few of the locals will be in the film.

I know however there is movies confirmed to be release at the end of 2011 (Fast & Furious 5 aka working title FAST FIVE and the end of 2012 (Transformers 3) being two of them, dates change but just weird this film hasnt even come up yet. Not even an expected release date and this film was announced almost 2 years ago. Hell even Eric Banas "Love the Beast" was on the list i have a year before it even started filming and that was only a documentary film.

I hate to say it ( and will get shot down in flames for it ) but who really cares. All the movies where bad with not only bad acting but bad story line. As for the coupes not everyone cares what happens to them I certainly don't. If you ask me the Aussie movie industry would be better of with out the fourth one.

Lets see.... it was 1978 and a bunch of guys made a movie off their own back and money. Lets see you do better?

Who cares about what happens to coupes??

Umm... this is a FORD Forum isnt it?

Sorry to waken you from your slumber but please do tell us all how all the other guys on here who actually own coupes must be wasting their time with 35yr old cars??

How to make friends on a Ford Forum.... :

i certainly do - for two reasons
they will destroy some very good examples of coupes - doesn't fill me with joy seeing a car i love being wrecked
and two, a combination of destroying some and the movie will make them more popular and drive up the prices. good, if you are planning to sell. maybe not so good when it comes to security when they have a new found fan base and value. unfortunately more people wanting them, higher prices coupled with the average earthling's morals does not make me relaxed

I hope they make this. I wasn't born when these where released, or any time soon after, but my dad loves those movies and every time he puts them on he talks about when he first saw this movie, seeing those old x coupes on the road and the presence they had, talks about how he had a mte who had one, etc. It just makes him think back to those old memories he has about that time when he was younger, because of those cars.
So I think it would be really cool to have modern T series and FPVs and Clubbies with big blowers and exhaust, and in 20/30 years when I come across it one day and watch it, I get reminded of those times when i was in my late teens/early twenties, just how my dad does.
I know that modern 'muscle' cars aren't as regarded as highly or as sought after as the old falcons, but where they as sought after as old XTs and XRs?
I think it would be good to have a modern MM, and todays generation who havn't seen or heard of the originals can relate to it more, because they recognise the cars and the 'culture' of the film.

If it's true then great. It'd be a shame to leave the story at that embarrasment MM3.
The downside will be the U.S demand for copies of the new coupe in 'natural' finish .....Maybe Dynacorn can start making XA/XB bodies.

Dynocorn is already making Australian "X" series panels.....
Was told by a distributer that XB coupe panels are next on the list.
An also aware that there is XR series bodies on the way in the near future as well....

Time will tell.

The "natural" finish on the coupe shown during last years press confernce means it isnt finished.
