Default New exhaust?

I have been quoted $420 ($500 with duel dump pipe) installed for a 2.5" (RedBack) Cat back exhaust. I am happy with this.

My current exhaust sounds like a broken down taxi and is in need for some serious tone. I wanted to go the stiddy route and get 3", but the apparently, NSW government has said that any exhaust mod to far above factory size will now need an engeneering certificate. He even showed me the little bit of paper that was faxed to him.

My question is, can you still fit a 3" and try get away without certificate and also if you already have a 3" will you need to go and get a certificate?

Just a little curios on how the law will affect thing.

Cheers, Matt.

the only thing that i'd be worried about with 3" is the noise level. if its above the legal level.

i had a 2.5" lukey cat back system installed today, paid peanuts cause i knew the guy. but i did get quoted 485 for a lukey system with twin tips, or 420 for a redback system with dual angle cut tips.

BUT, its not that loud at idle, only when you give it a boot full it gets louder, and even so its not that loud. so hopefully it wont attract unwanted attention.

thats my 2cents.

but if the law says you need a cert for a 3" thats the law. if youve already got one, i probably wouldnt worry about it.

3inch in a standard au auto will go crap.Going up hills the car will be slow and feel like it cant make it.So you will be revving its guts out to go anywhere.

why dont you just get one for a series one? as long as its the same type ie; sedan, then it should be ok, as long as the exhaust is for an irs model it should fit, everything underneath is the same afaik

Series 1, 2 and 3 exhausts all fit each other perfectly. Nothing changed.

guys
i just got a 2.5" cat back exhaust for my wagon last week from liverpool exhaust.
$350 fitted.and i got a stainless tip for $30.
sounds good, but a bit noisey on the expressway over 110ks.
I dont thinks its done much for power at this stage but may help latter on with a few more mods.

LOL at 'the stiddy route'.
I dont have an engineers cert? lol ops.. and I'll NEVER have a 6 with anything smaller than a 3inch system again!! Just get it and say you thought it was 2.5inch, but you wont get hasseled from it.. I havent been.
I have a manual so I rev its guts out anyway. Did it before I even got the exhaust lol. I just love seeing the needle touch the red. Although I can sit at 70km/h in 5th up a hill under 2000rpm and not worry?
$420 is a little much for a cat back, actually about $100 too much.

Yeah, seems dear, but maybe Brisbane is cheaper (?) I got a quote about a month ago for a 2.5" Redback cat back exhaust for 200 bucks, and a chrome twin tip was another $100, so $300 all up supplied & fitted. I thought that was good, but at this stage I'm saving my bikkies to get a full system jobby at RDP...

I could probably get it a little cheaper. but price isnt what really worrying me atm. Its more if i get pulled up that i will get in poo.

The police down around us hate P platers, so i really dont want to agravate them. Well i may go 2.5" untill i do a little more work, then sell it. But for now 2.5" would seem a safer option.

Thanks guys.

I got my exhaust done at men at work exhausts at capalaba, it cost $200 for the mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust with 1 muffler, $90 for twin 3" angle cut stainless steel tips, and $60 for a resonator to stop drone on the highway etc.. so like $350 for everything. Bargain!! One of the best mods i've done to the car.

Its kinda loud.. LOL but with 2 sports mufflers it will sound pretty sweet and not be over the top.
There will be someone with a video at the dyno day this weekend, and I might put my car on the rollers so everyone can finally hear it.
Actually, PM Joshf2 (I think) with the little fiesta, hes got a video of my car on a dyno..
Lol I really cant explain how it sounds.. its just an awesome tough sounding 6.. but everyone thinks its an 8! and I can make it sound like a boat!!
Its got that certain deepness and note that vibrates the walls, ground, shop windows and sets car alarms off, makes babies cry, dogs bark and people walk to the edge of the footpath to get a glimps of what it is when you cruise by.. lol love
it!
And its funny to watch most people back right down when they hear it, lights are red, they are all for it and trying to Gee me up.. I give a BIG rev, and the look and shock on their face is to die for, lights go green, they dont move till I roll away from the line.

Ask Casper when i went to pick him up one arvo..
Stiddy: "hey dude im...."
Casper: "Yessss I heard ya, be out in a min"
Stiddy: "but i didnt even give it"
stiddy gives it a little
Casper: "F*$k thats loud, noooo I couldnt live with that"
Stiddy laughs... then gives it full stick..
Casper: "that sounds totally different to mine, but sounds very nice"
(well something to that effect)

AND

HLC says: "come on start her up"
stiddy starts car and revs
HLC says: "get the F$%k out of here, thats not a 6"

LOL theres heaps more but meh..
