thanks GK was looking for throttle body clean -- is there any prob with junk falling further into the throttle body or motor

Never thought of that one! I guess the idea of the carby cleaner is that it dissolves the crud as it dislodges it. When you first start the car there is a little bit of smoke as the cleaner burns up but only for a second or two.

If you were concerned, you could apply the carby cleaner to the rag and gently rub it away I guess!

Does everyones AU have a clamp on the pipeing to the TB intake? Mine has some bizaar spring setup.

This just allows the pipe to be gently pulled back IIRC. Just pull at it gently, the spring stays in its place and you slide it back on again. I think the spring isn't that tight that it needs to be removed.

If you are unsure about it, just wait for a few more posts; guys who have the spring will come forth with a confirmation or alternative info.

No I just noticed from the photos in the Tutorial Section, that particular falcon had a clamp, I've had it off several times no problems. Just wondering why they changed it.

I remove the iac valve, throttle body and upper part of the intake manifold and cleaned it out with carby cleaner and wiped it down with a rag. i also painted the manifold but i took it for a drive after i put it back together and notice a bit more power and response, the engine also idles alot better.

When i remove the intake off, there was a bit of oil sitting on the bottom of the bottom half of the manifold, is this from the crank case ventilation and the oil isnt getting burnt up in the engine?

the "spring" thing is the standard AU item

just unbolt the pipe work from its mounting points and just pull it away from the T/B

it just provides some pressure to create a seal i guess it also allows some more flex in the pipework rather than having "another" rubber accordian pipe to deal with!!

the pics of GK's that rubber hose i believe is on the LPG equiped falcons?
hence why it uses a different clamp

just gave it a cleaned then took it for a drive the throttle responded better if am not imagining it. but i cleaned it in the hope of high idle would drop but something it idle at 2000RPM. it used to idle at 900 and still do but when drive for a while the idle rise to about 2000RPM then i release the clutch(in gear) abit to the friction point so the REV drop to about 900 after steping on the clutch again it idle at 900 but after a while the REV rise again. can anyone think of what is happening here?

Try giving the ISC a clean.

Also, check the throttle cable is not kinked or damaged. You might try giving it some lube (WD40) or such, using the spray nozzle to get it into the cable from the Throttle body end.

From what I have read, fitting an Oil Catch Can inline between the PCV valve and intake plenium would prevent most of this oily crud from every being there to start with.

gave the ISC a clean start idle at 900RPM but after give it a little gas the rev dont go back to 900RPM but stay at 2000RPM

Nice work GK- I have never cleaned the throttle body before myself, and want to do it on the weekend when I give my old girl (car) a good servicing!
So many posts regarding performance seem to relate to this issue.

"How to's" give such a good heads up before tackling these jobs. I have learnt so much about my car mechanically from these forums that I otherwise wouldn't have learned ,short of buying a repair manual.

Get lube into anywhere you can get to the actual cable inside the sheath. I guess this is really only practically possible at the Thottle Body connection.

Resetting the ECU did help not and now my radio is locked lolz any one know how to fix this or i have ring the ford dealer

Sometimes the radio has the code on a little sticker on the top of it when you pull it out. Kind of really defeats the purpose. You can also go to ford and they will give you the code if you bring the registration papers and the VIN number. Some do it for free and others charge you to get. Before you do this though, check if the code is in the owners manual or on a small card in the plastic pocket the book goes into.

You need the 4 digit pin code, which should have come with the car. If you haven't got it, you need to ring Ford for it. It came on a card, which should be located in the owners manual wallet. Sometimes it's been put in the actual manual itself in pen. I hope you have it.

If not.

Here's the thing, if you have a good relationship with a Ford dealer, they may give you the code over the phone for nicks; you need to give them the VIN.

Or, you may need to take it in, they may still be good to you and give it to you for nothing, or they may actually charge you. I've got one for free and had to pay for another in the past. I think I paid $15 last time.

Default Big maintenance weekend part1

Well, I just finished cleaning the throttle body and intake pipe/s on my AU Futura after a quick perusal of GK's simple "how to".I also CRC'd the springs and axles on the whole throttle and butterfly wing area,as well as the throttle cable entry/exit ends.

Wow- what a difference! Especially to the smoothness of acceleration,the whole pedal pressure feels lighter and a bit more responsive.
While the general area of the throttle body was clean- it had a lot of black grime on the inside,particularly on the bottom of the body and back of butterfly wing.
I used a white rag, and it was pretty damn black when I finished!

I also took off each piece of the snorkel/intake and gave them a good clean too.
I was very surprised to find a couple of large tree leaves in the section AFTER the air filter! That can't have been helping air intake.

All in all one of those nice jobs to do on a sat avo parked up on your front lawn with the sun on yer back and a bevvy or two at arms reach in the esky!

I started to clean the t/b today and i noticed that there was a lot of black grime down the back past the butterfly wing also. As you can't reach very far down past the butterfly wing to clean all the grime, is it alright to spray the throttle body cleaner down there and leave it without wiping it out? Will it just burn off? If not, how do you go about cleaning the grime out past the butterfly wings.

You can spray down there if you want.

You could go the whole hog and pull off the throttle body and clean that elusive lower half (other side of the butterfly) from the other opening.

I myself haven't done it as yet, but I guess it'd be worth doing every year or so.
