Default Hit/Run solved! A BIG thankyou to AFF!

Hello everyone!
I have some great news, the culprit has been caught!
I just want to say from the bottom of my heart how blessed I feel having such a large community of people behind me with this.
I went to the Police station tonight to get the good news, it turns out there was another witness riding a bicycle who saw the incident, who had put in a written statement, and identified the distinctive "666" numbers on the rego. This culprit now has half a dozen charges stacked against him, and will likely have to face court for the offences.
The helpful cop was impressed that I was able to give him a matching rego number (many thanks to Davocol!)

This goose is now off your roads, and I am no longer $1900 out of pocket.

Thankyou all again!
Carlo.

I must have missed the original so not 100% sure what's going on, but it sounds like someone hit your car, did a runner and somehow AFF & a cyclist have helped you report him to the police with his full details?

Awesome work Glad someone who does hit & runs will finally get busted for it.

Car had current registration, and was registered to the correct car, my guess is either this guy is really dim, had no insurance, or was drink driving (my pick).
Either way, I now only have to worry about what's next with my car, the panel shop said they're not sure yet, the damage was "major" and it is likely the insurance may pull the pin on the repair and pay me out. I may buy the wreck from them in that case, we'll see.
Although the damage doesn't look too major, they're worried it's done some damage to the A-pillar, which took a direct hit.
I've been picking my battles for the last few days, once I put in my written police statement, then I'll work on getting the car sitch sorted.

.
Before doing this I would suggest looking into what is involved in getting it back on the road again, fairly thorough paper work re the repairs, how the repairs have to be done (from the manufacturer), photo's of repairs at different stages, invoices for all parts used, Vin numbers of any cars that 2nd hand parts have been used from, panel shop details with abn's etc, and then viv inspections and possibly body shop inspection and measurements may be required.

Ratter is on the ball. Going through a VIV is a huge ordeal and costly. I've seen people buy damaged cars, go to VIV and get knocked back because of old repairs, which ment 2 new front rails had to go in.
If the insurance company give you a cash settlement for repairs, it;s a different story.

I think I would buy it just to part it out, like maybe find an auto XT or ghia and throw all the manual running gear and everything into it, but it's really early stage yet. It probably will get repaired, but I'm worried they might to a bodge on it.
